Tweedmouth West First Football Team Qualify for the Northumberland School Games.

Tweedmouth West First School is to represent the North Northumberland Area at the first Northumberland School Games.

On the 6th July 2012 fifteen hundred young people from all over the county will gather in Ashington to take part in 16 different sports in Northumberland School’s version of the Olympic Games and Tweedmouth West will be there in the Year 4 Football event.

Following a full season of monthly football festivals involving teams from Spittal; Prior Park; Scremerston; St Mary’s; Holy Trinity; St Cuthbert’s;  and Hugh Joicey Ford “The West” won the very competitive Berwick Area First Schools competition and qualified to play the Alnwick Area qualifiers, St Paul’s RC First School, in the North Northumberland Final at Longhoughton FC’s West Field Park.

The Final between “The West” and St Pauls was played on 16th May in very cool conditions at Longhoughton however the 3G astro pitch was an excellent surface for what was a high quality game with both teams demonstrating excellent football and sportsman like qualities in a highly competitive game.

“The West” eventually overcame the workman like defence of St Pauls to win the North Northumberland School Games Gold Medal with St Pauls picking up the Silver Medal for their performance throughout the whole event.

Let’s hope the whole area gets behind “The West” at the Northumberland School Games where they will be playing against qualifying teams from Tynedale; Ashington; Cramlington/Seaton Valley; Morpeth/Ponteland and Blyth Bedlington.
