Union Chain Bridge Summer Events

Dear Parents / Carers,

A summer news update from us here at the Union Chain Bridge Project:

Children’s activities at Berwick Museum & Art Gallery

We have a selection of children’s activities happening over the summer at Berwick Museum & Art Gallery.

They have been inspired by the current art exhibition, A Northumberland Menagerie by Bethan Maddox, and are on the theme of ‘light’.

Have a go at…

  • Shadow Puppets – make your own shadow puppet character and it can even have moving parts
  • Blueprints – use Victorian technology to make your own cyanotype art
  • Kaleidoscopes – make your own miniature optical instrument to take home
  • Lightning Art – print with acrylic paint to make simple fractal art

Perfect for families with children aged around 7-11, but adults are actively encouraged to get involved too.

We are running these activities for 5 weeks on Wednesdays and Thursdays from Wed 20th July until Thur 18th August.

Union Chain Bridge Birthday Picnic

On Tuesday 26th July 2022, the Union Chain Bridge will be 202 years old.

We had hoped to have a big reopening celebration party on this date, however, as you know the bridge is not forecast to be completed until ~September this year.

As such, we are holding another birthday picnic event on 26th July, much like last year, at the Chain Bridge Honey Farm.

Expect Georgian inspired music, family activities, and local groups such as Rag Bag Morris and Coldingham Ukes!

Entry is totally FREE but it is ticketed. To book, please visit: www.wegottickets.com/unionchainbridge

Restoration Update

All the chains are now back over the river, some of the hangers are back on, and the frame which holds the deck is also going in.

Lastly, a huge thank you for being part of the project over the last academic year. We look forward to seeing you in the next one!

Have a lovely summer everyone!

Best wishes,

Becki
